Namwera Police Post in Mangochi, last Tuesday have detained a woman known as Nunu Saidi aged 20, for allegedly pouring hot water on her husband over monetary issues.
According to reports, Saidi got married to the Victim Wilson Chimenya aged (34) last year in 2020. It is said that by the time the two got married, the Wife had already three kids from her previous marriage.
It is further said that, in July this year, the suspect left the husband for her matrimonial home as the couple was on temporary separation over undisclosed reasons.
On 28th August the suspect had to come back to her husband to ask for monetary assistance from the husband so that the wife will use for initiation ceremony for her children.
Due to misunderstanding, the conversation did not end well hence erupted into a fight, as the victim refused to render a hand since the kids were not his biological children, which angered the wife.
In the course of fighting, the wife took a pot of hot water which she found on fire and poured over the back of the victim and run away afterwards.
The suspect sustained heavy burns, and was rushed to Namwera Health Centre where he is receiving medication.
In an interview with Reflo Magazine, Public Relations Officer for Mangochi Police Station Sub Inspector Amina Tepani Daudi, confirmed to have arrested Nunu Saidi on 1st September.
“The suspect is in detention after hiding for few days, and she will appear before court to answer the charge of acts intended to cause grievous harm which contravene to section 235 of the penal code”. Daudi explained.
Meanwhile police in the district are appealing to women to stop the Gender Based Violence (GBV) against men who are suffering in silence.
The police are also reminding families to respect and follow marriage protocols, whenever they have disagreements with their spouses to avoid committing such crimes as this is a second similar incidence occurring since January this year.
Nunu Saidi hails from Mbalame Village, Traditional Authority Jalasi in Mangochi District.
