Short film ‘KHANDA’ drops real African life

Upcoming short movie ‘’Khanda”, a poverty and family planning of African life, is met with so much fever following a recent mention of its release date.

The film debut of Kelvin Maxwell Ngoma, The highly anticipated Mollywood touch was initially scheduled for cinema release last year but was pushed to 2021 due to the Covid-19 pandemic. Just of recent, the filmmaker turned TV presenter, Kelvin, stated in a post that the much-awaited movie that will be released on 29th January for the world to see.

“A lot of you have been asking where “Khanda” – a Mollywood poverty and Family planning story is? A movie produced and directed by Kelvin Maxwell Ngoma. The experience has been magical and I am happy to say that this Short Movie is getting a chance to see the world in 2021, at Madsoc Theater in Lilongwe, and he is expecting over 300 people to witness the launch, this is a reminder for everyone out there. Dreams do Come True! Can’t wait to share this magic with you,” Kelvin wrote on his Facebook page.

While Kelvin’s message didn’t say much, other than it will be released this year and being uploaded on his YouTube channel, no one knows if the movie will be on sale later, and lovers of Mollywood are eagerly looking forward to get a glimpse of the movie, starring Kelvin Ngoma and Patricia Ovielhelha Nehiya, the plot depicts the impact of poverty on African life.

Khanda” which loosely translates to “infant” is filmed mostly in Chichewa language. And is a story of a poor family struggling to sustain life and also as a couple they wanted to have a child, but then a child is expensive, the shelter, clothes and food. The family is left to make a decision on what really they would do, but their choice lead them to a disaster.’ he said earlier in an interview. I am grateful to all the extraordinary cast and crew that helped me make this project a reality. With nothing but a passion for film, this movie took us 5 months to complete from pre and post production, he explained.
